Saison Winery is an affiliate of the world-famous Saison SF which is a highly rated fine dining restaurant in San Francisco, California. Inspired by cycles of seasonal transformation, Saison Winery carried the spirit of Saison and cultivates, harvests, crafts, ages with deliberation Santa Cruz Mountain-vineyard's truest expressions. Lead by our winemaker/co-founder Mark Bright, our small team is dedicated to world-class hospitality, reflective of our founding restaurant, Saison SF. Our Saison family is composed of Saison Winery, Saison Cellar, Saison Restaurant SF, Angler Restaurants SF & LA, and Saison Smokehouse.
At Saison Winery we believe good wines start from farming of good grapes, therefore we work with the best farmers in the Ben Lomond Mountain AVA, Santa Cruz Mountains and Monterey region to ensure we capture the best expression. Here are a few vineyards that we had been working over the past few years to produce our wines: Regan Vineyard grows excellent Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Santa Cruz. Wirz Vineyard, planted in the 1950's, grows absolutely world-class Riesling. Coastview Vineyard is one of the highest elevation vineyards in Monterey. Syrah is king in this vineyard and is one of the best examples of the varietal in the new world. Coast Grade Vineyard grows 100% Pinot Noir, 2 miles from the ocean, and planted in sand and limestone.
Born in Chicago, Mark Bright has been passionate about wine since he went to Europe at the age of 15. He joined the Bellagio team on his 21st birthday working at Aqua Restaurant. His first travels took him to the regions of Burgundy and Rhone Valley, where he found his inspiration in the wine world and has kept that focus and advocacy throughout his career. In 2005, Mark was honored as one of the "Best New Sommeliers' by Wine and Spirits and was featured in Wine Spectator as a "New Wine Turk" in 2006. Mark was the opening sommelier for the flagship programs at the Mina restaurants. In 2009, Mark and his partner opened Saison in San Francisco. Saison has been a "Grand Award" recipient from Wine Spectator in 2014 - 2019, and one of the World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The team just opened their first casual restaurant Angler in San Francisco in September 2018 and in Los Angeles in June 2019. Mark is a passionate advocate of winemaking and vineyards in Santa Cruz. It was the diverse soil types and ocean influenced climate that he finds most interesting and drove him to the region. He also produces wines from the Gabilan Mountains, which holds their own unique qualities. The Saison wines are focused on single vineyard expressions and smaller production to extract the purest and highest quality of the harvest.
